He was out of coaching the past two years. Hirsch went 23-18 as Vanderbilt’s coach from 2008-10.
Hirsch replaces Dan Leskell, who resigned.
“The reason I stopped coaching is I had my second kid, but she’s 2 years old now and easier to manage,” Hirsch said. “I decided I could manage the time and Franklin was where I wanted to be since I was there before.
“It was a hotbed before when I was there with the athletes that come from the Grassland program and I think it will be a hotbed again.”
